Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month
June is designated Brain Awareness and Alzheimer’s Month and the Alzheimer’s Association is sponsoring virtual Brain Healthy events for everyone/anyone to join. The entire month includes a variety of interactive events for the local community that include mediation, yoga, Zumba, and even cooking!
Brain Health through Mindfulness
I will lead the #brain healthy session Meditation Fundamentals on Thursday, June 11th. Everyone will get to taste the benefits of meditation first-hand in this experiential workshop, as well as, learning about the history and benefits of these ancient practices.
You will leave with a good understanding of how to embark upon meditation practice that will strengthen your resilience and help you find your place of inner calm, even when circumstances are difficult.

Helping Family Members
– Every 65 seconds, someone in the United States develops dementia.
– Each day, thousands of families are forever changed by this disease.
Several, if not most of us, have had our lives touched in some way by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Whether in loving and supporting a family member or relative living with dementia, or knowing a close friend who is caring for a parent, spouse or partner, many of us have a personal connection to the disease and its unique challenges.
In the Community
The Alzheimer’s Association uses this month to raise awareness for diseases that affect the brain. While many events are postponed in this particular season, there are still several ways to show your support throughout the month and make a positive impact. Here are just a few!
– Wear purple on June 20th – the longest day of the year (summer solstice) – to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s
– Show support on social media
– Join a brain-healthy virtual event
– Care for the caregivers in your life
– Create a photo book
– Attend an education event
– Practice self-care
